Episkopi is a large village and seat of the homonymous community, as well as the homonymous municipal unit of the Municipality of Hersonissos in the Regional Unit of Heraklion of Crete. It used to belong to the District of Pediados while it was also the seat of the municipality of the same name.
It was the seat of the bishop of Hersonissos and the name of the settlement is due to this fact. The inhabitants are engaged in olive growing and viticulture. It produces raisins, grapes and oil. It has a regional clinic, KEP (Citizen Service Center), post office, OTE (Telecommunications Organization of Greece), police, kindergarten, elementary school, high school, high school and 14 temples with frescoes. The most important of the churches are Agios Ioannis, Michael the Archangel, Agia Paraskevi and the patron saint Agios Minas (a double-aisled church from 1882 with the northern aisle being dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin), with a marble iconostasis. It is celebrated on November 11.
